In the depths of downtown Mexico City, amidst pre-Hispanic vestiges and sewers, dwells an enigmatic creature known as the Mexa Snake. This crea- ture is a product of ancestral magic and the wild nature that coexist in this vibrant metropolis. Its body is a fusion of dark textures and colors that allow it to blend in with the city's asphalt. The braid, which extends from its head to its tail, is a symbol of its connection to the earth and sky, a bridge between the visible and invisible worlds.
The Mexa Snake is a skilled hunter, capable of gliding through narrow alleys and sloping roofs with an ethereal grace. Its diet consists of rats, squirrels, pigeons, and even stray cats, which it attracts with its hypnotic dance and its forked tongue that throws sparks of light.
Encounters with the Mexa Snake are rare and often considered omens of good or bad luck. Some see it as a guardian of the city, protecting its inhabitants from the dark forces that lurk in the shadows. Others see it as a harbinger of change and transformation, a reminder that life is a con- stant cycle of birth and death.
The Braid Snake is a mystery shrouded in an enigma, a creature that defies the laws of nature and challenges our understanding of the world around us. Its presence in Mexico City is a reminder that the magical and the mundane coexist, and that even in the heart of a bustling city, wild nature can find a home.
Chavis Marmol is an artist who lives and works in Mexico City, presenting his work for the first time in Berlin as part of an invitation extended by Ventana Proyecto to create an in-situ work within a display case at Ge- sundbrunnen subway station.
Chavis's sculptures are often playful and full of humor, traversed by vari- ous techniques and materials. For this proposal, the artist created a fic- tion where he presents himself as an exotic reptile that makes up a part of the Mexican fauna inhabiting Mexico City.
